Best plans for San Juan on the Costa Brava
Summer is getting closer and it is time to prepare for the San Juan festival, the shortest night and one of the most special festivals of the year. Whether for lovers of firecrackers, those looking for a few relaxing days or those who want to experience the culture around this tradition, there are a thousand ways to celebrate San Juan.
Here are some proposals to enjoy the best night of San Juan on the Costa Brava. Don't miss the popular festivals, music, traditions and bonfires that characterize this magical night!
Verbena on the beach
If you are one of those who want to spend San Juan night by the sea, we recommend that you visit one of the charming fishing villages on the Costa Brava, where large bonfires are usually lit on the beach accompanied by live music and fireworks.
You can enjoy a night with the fireworks at Platja Gran in Platja d'Aro or visit Palamós and take advantage of the town's festivities from June 23 to 26, with concerts, fire shows and all kinds of family activities.
Arrival of the Canigó Flame
One of the most deeply-rooted traditions of San Juan is that of the Canigó Flame, a fire that burns all year round in Perpignan until it is carried to the summit of Canigó on June 22. From there, it is transported by different means to hundreds of Catalan towns and cities to light the bonfires of San Juan.
Some of the towns on the Costa Brava where you can see the arrival of the Flame on the night of June 23 are Pals, Palamós, Palafrugell or Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Each town organizes its own celebration to receive the Flame with music, dance and other cultural displays that are worth witnessing.
Celebrate a gastronomic San Juan
Tasting menus, pairings, menus with cava and sponge cake, dinners with live music... the restaurants on the Costa Brava have an excellent gastronomic proposal for the night of San Juan. If what worries you is the food, and not the party, there is no better plan than to book a different gastronomic experience and let yourself be carried away by the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine.
Make sure you make your reservation in advance, as the establishments are usually full for the festival. Don't forget to try the traditional “Coca de Sant Joan”, the dessert par excellence of this festival!
Getaway in a charming hotel
To take advantage of the fact that San Juan night falls on a Friday, we encourage you to take a getaway to the Catalan coast and spend the shortest night in one of our charming hotels on the Costa Brava. Whether it's a romantic getaway, with family or friends, we have accommodation options to suit your plans.
Hotels with sea views, near the best beaches and coves on the Costa Brava, with gastronomic offerings, swimming pools, spas and other services to enjoy an incredible weekend.
