Costa Brava hotels with secret coves
Pssst! Hey, come closer and we'll tell you a secret. One of the good ones! Do you know that on the Costa Brava there are still hidden coves that only a few privileged people know about? And do you want to know the best? You can be the next discoverers, who in four days when the sea water is a little warmer will be able to enjoy them in all their splendor, and feel that you are part of these treasures hidden among rocks and pine trees.
And don't think that you have to go very far or take long walks to get there, today we will talk to you about quiet and sheltered coves that are close to your hotel. You just have to pay attention and open your eyes wide, because surely more than once you have passed very close to them but ended up going to a much more crowded beach.
The first one we will tell you about is Cala Culip, in Cap de Creus. A bucolic little stone beach next to the Cape de Creus lighthouse, which in its memory keeps the sinking of several Greek and Roman ships. You can reach the cove from the area of the old Club Med. With transparent and intense blue waters, it will allow you to enjoy one of the wildest views of the Costa Brava.
And very close, in Portbou, the Cala del Pi, which you will access from the coastal path, once you have passed the Tres Platgetes, and where a small pebble beach awaits you that opens up to crystal-clear waters, ideal for snorkeling. and enjoy a privileged landscape.
Without leaving Cabo de Creus, we also recommend Cala Playera, in Cadaqués, a place sheltered from the Tramontana and with access a 10-minute walk from the lighthouse itself. It has a part of sand and another of pebbles and, yes, sunny like few other coves. Your best accommodation option in this area is the Playasol Hotel in Cadaqués, modern and comfortable, facing the bay that captivated Salvador Dalí.
We continue in Alt Empordà, in Port de la Selva. Walking along the GR-11 you will find the indications to go down to Cala Tavallera, with that grayish hue so typical of the stones in the north of the Costa Brava. A beautiful and very solitary cove, which is accessed after about two kilometers of walking.
We continue drawing the Costa Brava from north to south, to now talk to you about Cala Estreta, in Palamós. You must continue further along the path to Castell beach, and then go down a path that will take you to a double cove, long and narrow, in an incomparable natural setting.
And from La Fosca, continuing along the coastal path heading north, you will reach one of the most picturesque corners of the Costa Brava, S'Alguer cove. Beautiful both in summer and winter, day and night, this little beach houses old fishermen's houses, which give color and light to a place that has inspired artists of all times. Here, the Hotel Àncora will satisfy all your expectations and will leave you very close to La Fosca beach itself.
And very close, in Tamariu, the Aigua Xelida cove, with fine sand and sheltered by pine trees that dance to the rhythm of the sea breeze. Josep Pla was in love with this little beach, which you can reach by walking from the Tamariu beach itself, or from up on the road and following the path that goes down to the coast. In this case you can choose between some exceptional accommodations in Llafranc: the Hotel El Far, an old inn located next to a hermitage and a watchtower, on one of the highest promontories facing the Mediterranean.
Historic and familiar, the Llafranch Hotel, located on the same promenade, is another highly recommended option. Also note the name of the Terramar Hotel, almost with its feet in the water, it is an establishment where comfort and convenience prevail. And if you want to get to know Tamariu, your choice is the Hotel Hostalillo, surrounded by pine trees and with the sea so close that you will feel like you are touching it. And at the southern end of the Costa Brava, the Hotel Sant Pol in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the middle of the bay, will come in handy.
From this location, we discover three pearls highly appreciated by those who are lucky enough to have been there at some time: Cala Pola, in Tossa de Mar, with thick sand and turquoise water. It is reached from the Pola campsite. And in Blanes, Cala sa Forcanera, where there are usually small boats anchored, and the small and hidden Cala s'Agüia, with large pebbles and accessible by boat or also on foot from the Pinya de Rosa tropical garden.
You see, if you thought you had already visited the best corners of the Costa Brava, you must admit that now we have tempted you a lot. And, confess it, wherever you can you will go to personally discover some of these gems of nature that we have told you about today.
