Ski Getaway in the Girona Pyrenees
Getting up very early, being cold, putting on a thousand thermal layers on top (and ending up sweating), eating a sandwich with frozen fingers, not being able to do anything with gloves on, having no cover, eating snow, feeling the cold wind when we go up on the chairlift, holding your legs on the ski lift...
Being a skier is not easy, but I love it.
What is the best ski resort to go with children? Which one is easily accessible by car? Which has the best facilities?
If you are planning a ski trip in the Catalan Pyrenees and don't know which station to choose, take a look at the list below. In this post I tell you the details of the four stations in the Girona Pyrenees that you can go to. All of them are easily accessible from Barcelona or Girona.
As always, next to each station, you will find recommended mountain hotels where you can sleep wonderfully and recover your strength after a day of skiing.
LA MASELLA
For this reason, La Masella is one of the best ski resorts to go with children or beginner skiers.
In recent years, Masella has introduced night skiing, with 10 kilometers of perfectly illuminated slopes that open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays.
LA MOLINA
La Molina is the oldest ski resort in Catalonia, although it has been able to renew itself in recent years. It is located in the region of La Cerdanya and due to its history and its easy access by train, it is one of the ski resorts with the most tradition in the Catalan Pyrenees. It is also a very family-friendly station and has a sleigh track and snowshoe circuits. , among many other special tracks.
As both resorts are linked, there is the option of buying a combined Molina-Masella ski pass and being able to ski much more.
Molina and Masella enjoy a very good connection with Barcelona (through the Cadí Tunnel). Puigcerdà is the closest city where you will find all kinds of services, leisure and gastronomy. You can sleep at the Hotel Del Prado. A very familiar hotel, five minutes from the commercial area of Puigcerdà.
VALL DE NÚRIA
Vall de Núria is much more than a ski resort. Its Sanctuary, 3,000 meter peaks in the landscape around it and the fact that to get to it you have to take the mythical rack train, make it very special and unique. Without a doubt, a mountain excursion recommended at any time of the year.
As for the ski slopes, I must admit that Vall de Núria is a very small resort, with only 7 skiable kilometers. Be careful, the level necessary to ski in Vall de Núria is high; The resort has difficult and steep slopes, not suitable for all skiers. If your level is high, do not hesitate to go skiing in Núria at least once in your life: the surroundings and landscape are spectacular!
To go up to Núria you must take the rack train that leaves from Ribes de Freser. There you will find services, restaurants and a great hotel with a highly recommended restaurant: Hotel Restaurant Els Caçadors, in Ribes. A modern mountain hotel with family treatment, which has a long tradition in hospitality.
VALLTER 2000
As its name indicates, Vallter's base is at two thousand meters. It is a station with a high altitude and, therefore, despite being the easternmost in the Catalan Pyrenees, it has good snow. It is one of the oldest stations in the Pyrenees, with 30 years of tradition. And also one of the most familiar ones due to the good offer of recreational activities for the little ones.
Hotel La Coma is located near Vallter, in Setcases, a bucolic and charming town, north of Camprodon. The hotel has been recently renovated and offers many amenities and activities for the little ones in the house.
