The most surprising activities in the Girona Pyrenees
We started with a main course, maximum adrenaline with canyoning. There are proposals for everyone, from those who are just starting out in this activity to those who already have experience and are looking for dizzying jumps and major challenges. To do this we will go to Alta Garrotxa, on one of the wildest and most beautiful routes such as Sant Aniol d'Aguja. But if what you want is to quietly enjoy a walk and finish it with a good swim in fresh, transparent waters, in Campdevànol you will find the Torrent de la Cabana route and its seven pools.
As we said, the Girona Pyrenees is preparing for an intense September, both in the towns at the highest altitudes and in the most Mediterranean area of the Pyrenees, in the Alt Empordà, where in September the third edition of the Hiking Festival of the Pyrenees. From September 24 to 26 you will find up to 10 excursion proposals, with expert guides in the natural and cultural environment of the region. They are routes articulated in the network of Itinerànnia paths, which highlight the contrast of the Pyrenean mountain range with the orography of the Costa Brava, so abrupt in the area of Cabo de Creus and in the Albera mountain range, and run through several municipalities of the Alt Empordà. Remember that to stay in this area you have the warmth of the Hotel Can Xiquet, in Cantallops, with spectacular views of the Empordà plain.
On the other hand, in Cerdanya, of the many options you have to actively experience the Pyrenees, we propose a simple outing, but no less attractive. The Puigcerdà Lovers' Way is one of those walks that you can do any morning or afternoon in good company, without rushing and enjoying a great natural spectacle. Or you can also choose to do it by bicycle, it is a matter of priorities. They are just over four kilometers surrounded by trees and with great panoramic views of Cerdanya. We will leave from the northern area of Lake Puigcerdà, to follow the indications of the Senderos de Cerdanya signs, which mark the direction of the Ur road.
Soon we will leave behind the last houses of the town and arrive at the Cerdanya Transfronterizo Hospital building, where you will be able to see the peaks of Puigpedrós or Pic dels Moros. Arriving at an irrigation canal that transports water to Lake Puigcerdà, we will follow the markings of the Lovers' Way, a particularly beautiful section in autumn, completely protected by the shade of the trees. Halfway there we can take a small detour to reach the church of Sant Jaume, from where we will resume the route to return to the starting point along Paseo de Rigolisa. It is an outing of one and a half or two hours, and you can discover it from the Hotel del Prado in Puigcerdà, a family establishment in the heart of the Cereta capital, and with a large menu of typical dishes from the region.
We started with the adrenaline of canyoning and we will finish this stay in the Girona Pyrenees with another activity that will pleasantly surprise you. Have you ever flown in a balloon? We encourage you to go to Santa Pau, in La Garrotxa, to live first-hand this experience that, far from what it may seem, does not cause shocks or any vertigo. With the gentle movement of the basket and taking advantage of the warm air currents, you will have exquisite views of the Pyrenees, flying over the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. You can live this adventure leaving from the Hotel la Perla de Olot, where they will offer you the comfort and convenience that you are looking for. And from here you have at hand the experience of feeling that you are floating in the air, the silence, the air that caresses your face... From the top of the balloon you will observe the fields of the region, the impressive volcanoes from a bird's eye view, the landscape of contrasts and colors, and you will fall in love with the towns and hermitages that you will see lost in the mountains. A real privilege!
